McAfee scans, flags, and quarantines Excel

Last Friday, McAfee released a virus definition file that pinpointed Microsoft Excel as the virus known as W95/CTX, and it more than likely quarantined or deleted part of the software. Besides Excel’s Excel.exe and Graph.exe, McAfee also did a number on AdobeUpdateManager.exe, which is yet another gift from the Computer Gods.
The culprit was definition file number 4715, and McAfee quickly replaced it within five hours of the mishap with definition file 4716. Only McAfee users who ran a manual or scheduled scan during the timeframe were affected. A representative from the company said that an issue such as this one usually happens quarterly, but it happens to either custom or new software, not Microsoft Exce
