Adobe on Intel-based Mac support: Lightroom coming first; No re-releases of current versions in Universal form

Adobe has published an FAQ on its plans for transitioning to support Intel-based Macs with a series of Universal (PowerPC and Intel-native) versions of its popular media applications including Photoshop, Illustrator and the former Macromedia product line.

Among the revelations included in the PDF document:

Lightroom—a photo production workflow program—will be the first Universal application to be released by Adobe in beta form.

Adobe does not plan to release current versions of its major applications in Universal form. Instead, users will have to wait for the next major release of Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver and more for native Intel support.

While not giving a specific time-table for releases, Adobe says it generally updates its major applications once every 18-24 months.

Adobe says users can mitigate performance hits when running applications under Rosetta by having at least 1 GB of RAM.
